How works injector diagnostics, calibration & ECU coding
Modern diesel and petrol engines rely on precision-calibrated fuel injectors. Each injector is individually measured by the manufacturer and assigned a calibration code that must be stored in the engine control unit (ECU).
Whenever an injector is replaced, swapped, refurbished, or disturbed, the ECU must be updated with the correct injector code. Without proper coding, even a brand-new injector can perform poorly and cause serious engine issues.

What injector coding actually is -.
Each injector has a unique code (e.g. IMA, C2I, QR, ISA, trim code), which compensates for:
- Manufacturing tolerances
- Flow rate differences
- Injection timing deviations
- Fuel quantity variation
- Pressure response behavior
The ECU uses this code to fine-tune injection timing and quantity for each cylinder individually.
If the code is missing, wrong, or not entered:
- Fuel delivery becomes uneven
- Combustion quality degrades
- Engine balance is lost
Why injector coding is critical
