DPF OFF – IMPORTANT INFORMATION BEFORE CHOOSING

Turning the DPF system off is a serious technical modification and should never be treated as a “quick fix”. Below we explain what it is, what can happen, why it is usually not recommended, and when it can make sense.

What happens when DPF is turned off

When DPF off software is applied:

The ECU stops monitoring soot and regeneration.

  • Active and passive regenerations are disabled
  • DPF-related codes and limp mode triggers are removed
  • The exhaust system no longer filters particulate matter

From a technical perspective, the engine management works without emissions control related to DPF.

Why DPF OFF is generally not recommended

For road-legal vehicles, DPF off is not advised because:

  • Illegal for public road use (EU / Finland)
  • ❌ Vehicle will fail inspection (Katsastus)
  • ❌ Increased emissions and environmental impact
  • ❌ Possible insurance and liability issues
  • ❌ Future resale value decreases
  • ❌ Software modification can be detected during inspections

In many cases, DPF issues are caused by driving profile, sensors, or incorrect regeneration conditions, not the filter itself.

What can go wrong if DPF is removed incorrectly

Poor or unsafe DPF off solutions may cause:

  • ECU errors in other emission systems
  • Incorrect fuel injection strategies
  • Turbo or EGT-related issues
  • Excessive smoke
  • Engine fault lights returning later
  • Software corruption if done without proper tools

That is why OEM-level tools and correct procedures are critical.

When DPF OFF can make sense

DPF off may be acceptable ONLY when the vehicle is:

  • ✔ Used for off-road or motorsport
  • ✔ Exported outside EU emission control areas
  • ✔ Non-road-legal machinery
  • ✔ Dedicated work or race vehicles
  • ✔ Vehicles with permanently removed exhaust systems

In these cases, DPF off must still be done correctly and professionally.

How to keep your DPF healthy (recommended for road cars)

Before considering DPF off, we strongly recommend:

  • Regular longer drives (20–30 min at steady speed)
  • Avoiding short cold starts only
  • Keeping engine oil at correct specification
  • Fixing EGR, boost, and temperature sensor faults
  • Checking differential pressure readings
  • Performing controlled regeneration when needed
  • Resetting learned values after repairs

In many cases, these steps restore DPF function fully without illegal modification.

Our approach to DPF services

We do not automatically recommend DPF off.
Our process is:

  1. Diagnose the real condition of the DPF system
  2. Evaluate regeneration capability
  3. Check sensor and ECU data
  4. Recommend the best legal and technical solution
  5. Apply DPF off only if justified and permitted

Important notice to customers

DPF off software is provided only for non-road-legal vehicles.
The customer is fully responsible for ensuring the vehicle complies with local laws and regulations.
